Taylor White

From a young age, I have always been a kinaesthetic learner. I would often spend hours designing and sketching out ideas, this crucial characteristic followed me through my education, where I naturally gravitated towards the more hands-on and creation based subjects. These are the traits that a successful Graphic Designer needs to stand out in a highly competitive sector. Throughout my primary and secondary education, I always was the first to enrol in creative extra curriculum activities such as pottery, woodwork, set design, photography, audiovisual technician and graphic design. As soon as I was able to pick my options I knew straight away that I would go down a creative pathway, choosing: Drama, Product Design and Art and Design. Throughout my education, I have had to overcome many medical hurdles, of which having a creative outlet enabled me to channel my energy into something positive and rewarding. My biggest hurdle was at 16 being diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes just weeks before my GCSE exams.  After achieving excellent grades, even on a reduced timetable; I went on to study A-Levels in Art and Design, Creative Media and Sociology. Taking the knowledge obtained from these demanding subjects allowed me to pursue the next chapter of my creative education. This was enrolling on the HNC Graphic Design course where I learnt crucial design disciplines; listening to the client's needs, time management skills and numerous darkroom techniques achieving the highest grade possible. I am now on target to accomplish top grades in my HND Graphic Design, which has been heavily focused on finding my own creative style. Whilst competing in design competitions such as Typoday 2020, D&AD and the Penguin book competition 2020. Outside of education, my social life is heavily focused on creativity, from restoring classic cars to fully renovating houses. Visiting galleries and exhibition with friends, and travel to numerous countries visiting cultural hotspots and historical monuments.  I'm lucky to have a part-time job at an antique centre which has allowed me to expand my creative horizons, to now know more about various influential designers. Progressing into being able to buy and sell antiquities online and through auctions. Numerous designers have influenced my creative style of minimalistic, pair backed and timeless colour palettes. I draw from various cultures from around the world, focusing on typography, languages and striped back compositions. Which can be seen through the work of El Lissitzky in the iconic Russian constructivism era, Max Kisman, Abram Games and the whole Bauhaus movement. These designers stand out for me as they create timeless pieces of work that are still contemporary today. This is something that I strive for in my work.
